Boozhoo! (Hello!) Our class has been busy. We had a Presenter from the Indian Health Board talk
about diet, nutrition and diabetes. We journal every day about a Health topic that causes us to think and
reflect on the decisions we make in our lives.
We are studying about health and wellness and making healthful choices. We learned that there
is more than one kind of health. There is physical health, mental health, emotional health and spiritual
health. We completed a personal inventory of our health habits and we each wrote personal goals for
ourselves.
We learned about making responsible decisions for our health and setting health goals. We
learned about risk factors for teens.
Speakers from the Phoenix Project spoke to us about the dangers of people who trap and trick
young women and men into selling their bodies for sex.
Currently, we are learning about nutrition and the Native American food pyramid and the food
groups. Our lesson now is learning about the origins of manoomin (wild rice) and its importance to our
people. We will be bringing home Alberta’s wild rice recipes and we will raffle off some wild rice she
brought in for a lucky student to win.
P.S. Congratulations to Joe Saice-Kroyer and Phyllis Lajeunesse for Perfect Attendance in Health
